Recommended Reading

There are numerous books out there on caricature, including many that are about how to draw caricatures. I feel that the best way to learn is through practice, and not necessarily through books. There are however, 3 books that I would strongly recommend you take a look at. Joe Bluhm's Rejects, Jan op de Beeck's Famous Corpses, and Jason Seilers Art of Caricature. These are not tutorial books, just pages filled with insperational drawings. I have included the links below to sites where you can purchase these gems. Take a look....

Live at home....

This is my Girlfriend's sisters fella Rob. They are over on holiday so thought I would give him a gift to take home ! Sorry about the reference pic, but he refused to pose for the camera !

Abu Dhabi Live caricatures - Eid

I managed to get through about 130 quick colour caricatures in 3 days at this event. I worked 3 hours a day, and had a que of at least 15 constantly. These few photos I managed to get were taken when it was still reasonably quiet !

I learnt a lot from this painting. Fairly happy with the result, but still a long way to go until I reach the standard i'm looking for !

On the Easel Update

We are now at around 80%. Pretty happy with how the detail levels are building. Still plenty to do.....

On the easel

This is what's currently sitting on my easel. Its the start of a painting i'm doing for my Grandpa for christmas. I know it looks pretty messy at the moment, but it's about 30% done. I am posting it now to keep my self motivated to get it finished ! He was a 48 Royal Marine Commando in WW2, a printer after the war, and an absolutley top bloke all of his life. I couldn't be a prouder grandson. He was also a fantastic painter, and the reason I got into painting in the first place. This year he turned 85, and I wanted to give him something special. I hope I manage to get this finished before xmas, and that he likes it !

I'll post the complete painting when it's finished....

This is the big one... The basics of caricaturing...
I went into IQ's HQ and sat down with a writer and a photographer, and this is what we came up with. The subject was Kylie Minogue, as she is coming to Dubai this month.

IQ magazine article 2...

This week, IQ asked myself and fellow caricaturist Jo, to answer a series of light hearted questions, and complete a self caricature. 5 all was all we could muster... it was a tight battle, but all in good spirits.

Next week I have a How 2 article going in to the mag, and will post when I can.
